I have tried the solution found hither.

http://en.kioskea.net/faq/255-no-windows-update-with-windows-xp-sp3

I have also tried methods 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9 and 10 from the page linked by 'Debbie - Support Engineer'.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798

This is probably irrelevant since the Os has just been installed and has no updates, but on Method 8 - Pace one - #eleven, I noticed that the GTE CyberTrust Root certificate says 'This certificate has expired or is non yet valid' instead of 'This certificate is OK'.

None of these methods were successful and I'one thousand nevertheless unable to get updates.

I simply managed to correct whatever was wrong for the updates to work. I woke up to the xanthous shield icon, and 145 updates to make.

At that place were two applications I needed to install including:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 (sp1)
  • IE8

It'south non that sp3 asked for them, simply something on the Microsoft site suggested that I do something which ultimately failed until I installed them. Office of the deal is that I use Firefox, only the update site requires that one use IE. IE6 crashed repeatedly inside 30 seconds of logging in.

My XP installation CD is sp2. The update pages said I can't download sp3 without IE 10 or better. Firefox is definitely taboo. While bouncing around the same MS pages, I kept finding myself on a page that says it's for developers where SP3 could be downloaded, and installed manually. Indicate your browser here.

Before this issue occurred after the format, my laptop had no viruses or malware and it was able to receive regular updates from Microsoft.

I likewise remember using the same OS installation procedure and having no issue getting all the updates right away.

I retried previously suggested methods. I did research on the issue and tried new methods from dissimilar sources to solve the trouble but null worked.

I formatted my laptop and installed Windows XP again.

I installed the basic drivers which I obtained from the manufacturer's websites. They are the correct and latest versions, and the ones I was previously using.

My laptop is fine and my internet connectedness is still fast and stable.

My version of Windows was successfully activated.

I did non install or run whatsoever programs, or change any settings.

The latest version of the Windows Update Amanuensis for Windows 7 and earlier versions of Windows is 7.half-dozen.7600.256 which is what I accept.

Automated Updates is turned on and I waited for over an 60 minutes merely null happened.

I inverse the Automatic Updates setting to 'Notify me but don't automatically download or install them.', restarted and waited but nothing happened.

I opened the Services window (Start-Run-services.msc) and noticed that the Background Intelligent Transfer Service's Status was bare and the Startup Type was Transmission. I stopped the Automated Updates service and typed the following in cmd.exe:

cd \windows\system32

regsvr32 wups2.dll

I then set up the $.25 service Startup Type to Automatic, started this service then the Automatic Updates service.

I waited just nothing happened. I restarted, waited, typed 'wuauclt /detectnow' in Start-Run, waited, yet goose egg happened.

I left my laptop on for several hours and somehow the Automatic Updates' yellow shield icon appeared on the taskbar which asked me to download and install a single update: Update for Windows XP (KB898461) which I did.

Soon afterwards, I got some other notification to download 'Security Update for Windows XP (KB2478971)' which I agreed to but the icon remained on the taskbar and mouse-over text said it was downloading at 0%. This did not change (still at 0%) for over an hour and clicking, double-clicking, and right-clicking the icon did nothing.

It'due south possible that the names of these two updates are reversed.

I restarted Windows. Automatic Update said it was gear up to install the update which it did and had me restart Windows.

I looked into Control Panel-Add or Remove Programs and the ii updates are displayed under Windows XP - Software Updates. The KB2478971 has 'Installed On *engagement*' next to it merely the other update does not (which might be normal?).

I still can't admission nigh websites including the Microsoft website with IE half dozen.0.

I waited for nigh thirty minutes and and then tried 'wuauclt /detectnow' simply nothing happens.

I opened the Services window and noticed that the $.25 service Condition and Startup Blazon settings had been automatically changed to what they were by default then I changed it to 'Commencement - Automatic'.

Nil happens even after restarting.

I have the same problems with Windows XP Professional, SP3, 32-scrap. It looks like the updates for XP were eliminated in October or November 2013. I wait, and await, and expect... just the process goes nowhere.

Again, I believe Microsoft did kill XP... definitively! As in a Neorealism film: "Giuseppe e morto... morto definitivo!"

Luckily, I have a desktop with dual boot (64-bit Win 7 and XP) and a laptop with Win viii.i (an annoyance... Long alive Windows 7!)

Win XP is all the same the fastest... more and then than 64-flake Win 7. I judge things have to go from acceptable, to proficient, to worse, and thne worse...

The Book of Truth: It is all Random. Randomness rules the Universe. I demonstrated it across reasonable incertitude: mathematically, that is.

Hello Phil,

I tin experience your pain now, since I'k most exactly in the same situation.

Could you somehow manage to get your automatic update work?

I went through nearly the same steps as you, only no luck so far. I have spent the whole week with this consequence.. I have installed the same copy of XP on the aforementioned car many times during the past years, and I take never experienced this problem. At present I accept a clean install (no other programs, but the barebone XP), and I can't go along.

I could practice one thing: co-ordinate to one of the many advices, I updated the default IE7 to IE8. When information technology was finished, the mighty xanthous sign turned upwards at in one case. And so I could install four small security updates, only since then nil.

Any update would be appreciated.

Thank you

Nordi
